Can you spot the squeaky ball in this photo?
I couldn’t, but Sadie did.
Yesterday morning I was awakened to the sound of a frustrated Sadie grumbling and pawing at something in the living room. When I went to investigate, it seemed like Sadie was annoyed at her toy box, like she couldn’t get to the toy she wanted. So I started taking things out of the box and showing them to her in hopes of finding the right toy. But Sadie wasn’t interested in anything from the box. She just kept scratching at the right side of the box itself. So I picked up the toy box to see if there was something stuck to the side, and as soon as the box was out of the way, Sadie shoved her head against the piece of furniture her toy box was up against.
Then she started crying and pawing at that piece of furniture. Upon closer examination, it turned out that there was a small hole at the bottom of that shelf piece, but I couldn’t see anything in the hole. Sadie was still whining and looking at me expectantly, so I gathered my courage and stuck my hand in the hole, fully expecting to find some moldy piece of food or worse, a bug. Immediately I felt something round and bumpy, just like one of Sadie’s favorite squeaky balls. I took the ball out and showed it to Sadie, who immediately grabbed it from my hand and ran away squeaking happily.
I have no idea how she noticed it stuck under there when it wasn’t visible at all until I moved it out of the hole. The only explanation I can think of is that she smelled it. But with it’s location right next to her toy box, how could she tell that ball’s scent apart from all the other balls an toys in her box. It just boggles my mind.

It could work, lol. Maybe if I used a squeaky ball as a keychain she would always know where the keys are!
Not mine! That is standard operating procedure around here. Last night I kept whining for my ball under the TV stand, mom couldn’t find anything, dad couldn’t after two tries, but I don’t let up. He gets a flashlight, sure enough there’s my orange squeaky ball! We are much smarter than you think! Love Doll
LOL that is funny. I laugh when sometimes they spot a toy under the couch. 🙂 Thanks for joining the Barks and Bytes hop.
