Sadie’s DIY Office Bed

Working at our office can get pretty boring for Sadie, even with all the toys she’s got all over the place. So some days I try to make things more interesting for her. I had just finished using the last ream of paper from the box and was setting up the empty container for recycling when Sadie came to investigate what I was doing. She started sniffing around, and then stepped into the overturned box lid and sat down. That’s when Sadie’s Grandfather and I realized that the box lid was exactly the right size for Sadie to lie down. We brought over some stuffed toys for pillows and a nice blanket. As soon as I placed the blanket over Sadie, she laid down and got comfy. Within minutes she was fast asleep. Of course Sadie has multiple fluffy dog beds around the office, but we correctly predicted that a box lid would be a far more exciting place for a nap that day.

Sadie’s First Airplane Ride!

Last week Sadie joined me on a very exciting adventure – her first airplane ride! It’s only a 2 hour flight from here to Florida, so I thought this would be a good first flight for Sadie to take. We flew on JetBlue, so Sadie was able to ride with me as my carry-on bag. I just had to make sure that she was in a soft-sided carrier that met the airline under-seat requirements, which I’ve heard are a little stricter than other airlines. I also brought along Sadie’s vaccination records and a certificate of good health from her vet just in case someone at the airport or hotels asked to see them (no one asked, but better safe than sorry).

Black and White Sunday #35

Looks like Sadie’s back in the box again. On Wednesday she had trouble finding her way out. But now she’s such a pro she can go through her cardboard box tunnel backwards!

Fluttering Around the Garden

Sadie and I have been gardening these last few days. We’ve been working in the flower beds in front of the house, planting bulbs for next Spring. While I know that the effort will be worthwhile when I see those beautiful blossoms in Spring, I can’t help but feel that right now it’s thankless work. Sadie keeps looking at me like I’m crazy, wondering why I’m making so many holes and burying such weird things that don’t even smell good. So in order to counteract the delayed gratification of planting bulbs, I decided to also buy some Fall flowers already in bloom. I planted some purplish Asters and reddish Mums in our little planter box on the deck. Sadie was very interested in our new floral decorations. She wouldn’t stop hovering over them once they were in place, and I joked that she was my little butterfly attracted to the new flowers. And then I realized that she really could be my butterfly; the Halloween items were out of storage and her butterfly costume was just inside the next room. So I ran and grabbed the costume and had a little Sadie butterfly photo shoot with our new flowers.
