I love the tongue action in these two mosaic portraits, which show my Sadie embracing the Halloween spirit with her jack-o-lantern collar and her ghostly hair bows!

Here is Sadie modeling her favorite Spring collar. I’ve found it very difficult to take pictures of Sadie focusing on the collar she is wearing. Either I can get a good photo of the collar, but not Sadie’s face, or if I focus on Sadie’s face, the collar gets obscured by her fur. And Sadie isn’t even that fluffy of a dog – I can’t imagine trying to get a picture of one of the really fluffy dog breeds wearing a collar!

This week’s #52Snapshots of Life theme is technology. For my photos today I decided to try out a new gadget I bought Sadie. It’s an attachment that hooks onto a dog’s or cat’s collar and shines a little laser point at the ground. Since Sadie acts like a cat half the time, I thought she would enjoy playing with and chasing a little laser beam all over the floor. It’s a cute concept. Since the laser is attached to the collar, the beam moves when your pet does, so your pet can basically entertain themselves by chasing around a beam that they are moving themselves. So I attached the little device to Sadie’s collar and pointed out the light to her. She looked at it for like a minute, then got bored and went to find a ball. Oh well. I’m thinking the laser can still be useful, especially since you can change it to blinking or flashing lights instead of just the one little beam. If I set it to flashing on her collar and send Sadie out to use the bathroom at night, I can keep an eye on her by following the flashing light. So technology doesn’t always work the way you want it to, but it’s always pretty useful in the end.

For the last few weeks Sadie has been trying out a shiny new collar, sent to us by the nice people at Hamilton Collars. The collar is very lightweight, yet sturdy, which makes it perfect for everyday wear. It’s adjustable with a six inch differential, so there is plenty of wiggle room to get the right fit. Our new collar is a vibrant pink color called Raspberry, which is perfect for Sadie. All the colors used in Hamilton Collars are fade resistant, so you never have to worry about losing that bright new collar look.

Our Hamilton Collar is made of high quality nylon webbing with standard hard plastic buckles. The buckle seems very sturdy – none of that cheap, flimsy plastic you sometimes find with bargain collars. Plus this collar was designed with an extra safety feature built into the clasp – you need to slide one half of the buckle through the metal ring in order to put the collar on and off. This means that if the collar somehow became unbuckled, it would still remain securely around your pet’s neck until you were able to refasten it. That feature alone makes this a great collar in my opinion – an extra secure collar gives me extra peace of mind.

This flashback photo was taken the first day I brought Sadie home. I put her very first collar on her (pink, of course ) and took this picture. Then I clipped her shiny new, pink rhinestone tags onto the collar and she promptly fell down. Apparently tags come in sizes. As Sadie is my first dog, I had no idea that tags come in small and large sizes. The larger size tags were just too heavy for my tiny pup to handle, and she could not keep her head up while wearing her new collar with the tags. I made a quick trip to the pet store that evening for appropriately sized pink rhinestone tags for my little princess.
