<\/a> Today is Flag Day, and with Summer just around the corner, it’s the perfect Saturday for some good, old-fashioned American family time, like a backyard barbecue and a game of fetch with your furry ones. In my town, Flag Day means the Avenue of Flags display. At our city hall complex, veterans and volunteers set up dozens and dozens of flags at dawn, lining every road, sidewalk, and path of the grounds. Though they are predominantly American flags, our state flag, city flag, and various military organization flags are also represented. The flags are placed into stands that are drilled into the ground, so that all the flags stand at perfect attention, at exactly the same height, and at precisely the same distance apart. All day people drive or walk through to marvel at the spectacle of so many flags flapping in the breeze. Sadie and I plan to enjoy a patriotic\u00a0afternoon walk through the Avenue of Flags as our way of celebrating Flag Day.<\/p>\n
