During our travels a couple of weeks ago, Sadie and I spent part of that time staying in a hotel. This was quite an adventure, as this was Sadie’s first ever time in a hotel. I was a little nervous about how Sadie would respond to her new environment, but overall I was very proud of my pup.

When we first arrived, Sadie happily got out of the car and went on a walk around the property to take care her business. That may not sound like much, but this was already progress on Sadie’s part. Earlier in the week we spent some time at my Uncle’s apartment complex, where Sadie absolutely refused to go on any walks, nor would she do her business anywhere near the apartments.

As soon as I got our room key and brought Sadie and all our stuff into the room, Sadie began exploring. She sniffed every inch of the two bedroom suite with a big smile on her face. When I had to go back to the lobby, Sadie begged to come with me. She continued sniffing and exploring the hallway and lobby with the same level of excitement, which surprised me. I thought that all the smells and noises and strange people in the common areas of the hotel would make Sadie nervous, but she was simply excited and curious. I was extremely pleased that Sadie became comfortable so quickly in her hotel surroundings.

The main problem we had with our hotel stay was the height of the beds. There was no way Sadie could get up onto the bed, and in my opinion it was too high for her to jump off of safely. So I had to keep picking her up and putting her down, which was mostly fine until the middle of the first night. Some noise in the hallway would wake Sadie and she would growl and threaten to bark. As soon as I shushed her and prepared to fall back to sleep, Sadie would want to get off the bed and switch rooms to sleep with her Grammy. Since I didn’t want her to jump, I had to get up and carry her from one room to the other, multiple times that first night. I was starting to worry that I would never get any sleep with Sadie at the hotel with me.

But day two was a very busy day. My family and I took Sadie to the New England Pet Expo and had a great time. It was a nice, family friendly, dog friendly, free event where I met lots of interesting people and pets. Everyone kept coming up to us wanting to meet Sadie and commenting on how cute she looked. We left the event happy, exhausted, and loaded with swag. Here’s Sadie posing with some of the goodies:

But my day wasn’t over yet. I left Sadie at the hotel with her Grammy and drove into Boston for an alumni event for my college. Apparently while I was gone, Sadie sat guarding the hotel room door, too nervous about my well being to take a nap. Sadie was ecstatic when I came back and we immediately went on a walk around the hotel to burn off her excited energy. And the combination of an exciting day and a good walk at the end worked perfectly for Sadie. She fell deeply asleep and stayed asleep the whole second night, giving us a perfect, restful ending to our adventure.

This post is part of the Adventure Dog blog hop hosted by DOGthusiast and Tiffany’s Diamond Dogs.
