Dog House Bath

This weekend Sadie had her first outdoor bath! Normally Sadie uses the bathtub, just like the rest of the family, but this time I decided to take advantage of the last official weekend of Summer and the really warm weather to try something new. Her dog house pool seemed like the perfect place for outdoor bathing. I filled the pool from the hose and mixed in some warm water that I brought out from the house in a bucket. Sadie’s big dog was very helpful in holding all her bath supplies. I let Sadie splash around in the pool for a bit before we got down to business. The bath went very well. Sadie smiled the whole time, which rarely happens in the bathtub indoors. I feel like I got more soaked than usual, but it was hot so I didn’t really care. After everyone dried off we deflated the pool and put it away until next Summer. It’s sad to see the Summer end, but now I know that bath time can be more fun for Sadie next Summer in the dog house pool.

Tissue Box Ball

Introducing a new, exciting game from the creative team that brought you Bowl Ball and Dog House Ball. It’s Tissue Box Ball!

Tissue box ball started with one of those battery operated dog toys that bounce and vibrate and bark at your dog. The protective bag over this crazy dog ball ripped, so I was looking for some alternative covering to protect my floor and Sadie from the hard plastic of the ball. I had just taken the last tissue from a box and randomly decided to drop the crazy ball into the tissue box. It fit perfectly and made the tissue box jump and dance across the floor in a very entertaining way. From that moment on, a tissue box became Sadie’s favorite playtime accessory.

Multiple times a day, Sadie will be playing with one of her squeaky balls and will drop it into one of the tissue boxes I leave on the floor for her. She then uses her paws to bat the tissue box around on the floor. She likes to make the box flip over and over until her ball drops out. Then she squeaks her ball again for a bit, before dropping it into a tissue box again. Occasionally the tissue box will get pushed into an inconvenient position, so Sadie picks it up with her mouth and moves the box to a better location before starting to bat it around again. She also enjoys having multiple boxes to choose from, which has led to there being eight to ten tissue boxes on my living room floor. But the tissue boxes on the floor are well worth it when I see Sadie’s smiling face as she runs from box to box deciding which one her ball should go into next.

Sadie the Bat

Over the weekend I did some cleaning in my bedroom. Sadie was sleeping on the bed and I was working on the floor below her. At one point I glanced up and found a surprising sight. My little pup was upside down, hanging off of the bed staring at me! With her big ears flopped open, Sadie looked just like a little bat! She seemed very comfortable in her upside down position and happily stayed like that watching me until she fell asleep.

Is it a Dog House? Is it a Pool? It’s Both!

Sadie and I had some splashing good fun this weekend in her brand new dog house pool! Recently purchased online, Sadie’s dog house pool is actually an inflatable baby pool. It only holds about a foot of water, but that’s just enough for my short little pup. It took almost a half an hour to inflate the thing, but I was pleasantly surprised at how big and sturdy it is. Luckily there was a separate nozzle to inflate the bottom of the pool, so I was able to leave the bottom uninflated to keep it safe from doggy nails. I really like how the roof of the dog house pool keeps the water shaded so that Sadie can be out of direct sunlight and the water stays cooler. It was really humid here this weekend, so it was refreshing to cool off in the little pool after a nice walk. Although I did not join Sadie inside the pool, she still managed to keep me cool with her splashing and frequent shaking the water off of her fur. For a dog that hates taking baths and generally getting wet, the pool was very successful. Sadie seemed to really enjoy cooling off and I was happy to have some summer fun with my little pup.

Twenty Sixth Time’s the Charm

Clearly I wasn’t paying enough attention when taking photos of Sadie after her grooming visit this weekend. It was hot and sunny, the ground was full of sharp, pointy rocks, there were bees, excuses, excuses. Honestly I was just being impatient and trying to snap a quick photo. But as usual, if I try to do something quickly, it just takes longer to correct all of my mistakes in the end. It took me over twenty five tries before I finally positioned myself, the camera, and Sadie correctly to get the above photo. Here are six of my first attempts, which I find funny because they are so bad, followed by two photos that actually turned out pretty well.
