Queen For a Day

Sadie is a princess everyday in our home. But since yesterday was Sadie’s Gotcha Day, I thought we should do something special. So Sadie got to be Queen for the day. She’s used to the royal treatment as Princess, getting her food and water hand delivered, getting lifted on and off the furniture, sleeping on the bed, etc. But as Queen for the day, Sadie got to make all the decisions as well. Treats for breakfast? Ok, but only today. A new toy every few hours? Why not. She might not understand that I’m spoiling her for the day to say thank you for coming into my life four years ago, but she’ll appreciate the spoiling regardless.

Sadie has taught herself a new trick this week. Every time she hears the words ‘snow’ and ‘out’ in the same sentence she immediately runs to the door and scratches and whines and spins in circles until I let her outside to go frolic in the snow. She is loving all the snow we’ve had in this area lately, especially now that the top layer has a crust of ice that she can walk around on without falling through. Normally she hates going outside when it’s cold out, but she makes an exception when there is snow. If I take her from the house to the car, where we spend maybe thirty seconds in the cold, she sits there shivering until we get to our destination. But if she begs to go out in the snow, even in the middle of the night, she stays out in the freezing cold for five or ten minutes with no problem. Continue reading
