These photos are from the day that Sadie realized she could go up and down the stairs. I had been trying to teach her for a of couple weeks, putting her paws up on each step, boosting her up, showing her what to do, but she was just too scared to go more than one step on her own. During that time my uncle came to visit, and he and Sadie had a great time running around, chasing each other. But then he would run up the stairs and tease her, and she would cry and bark because she couldn’t follow him. A few days later the concept finally clicked for her. She ran up and down those stairs over and over while I cheered her on. When she stopped to catch her breath and I snapped the photo below, Sadie was just beaming with pride. She was so excited and so proud of herself about her accomplishment. Plus she had a whole new level of the house open for her to explore. Later that night my uncle came to visit again. He and Sadie ran around the house like usual, and then he ran up the stairs. I will never forget the look on his face when he turned around at the top of the stairs and found Sadie standing on the landing with him. He couldn’t believe that she had learned to go up the stairs when just a couple of days ago she couldn’t at all. And now Sadie could zoom up and down faster than him! Unfortunately we’ve moved since then to a house that only has wooden stairs, which Sadie won’t go anywhere near. I guess we’ll need to start the lessons over again.
